Lynx Marketing Announces Tips for Creating Telephone Cold Calling Scripts
Telephone appointment setting and lead generation company Lynx Marketing announces tips and guidelines for developing effective telephone cold calling scripts.
Denver, Colorado, June 30, 2009 - Lynx Marketing today released guidelines for developing professional cold calling scripts for use in lead generation and telephone appointment setting. While strict word-for-word reliance on a script may or may not suit the calling style of every person making cold calls, scripts can be helpful to maintain structure and clarity in cold call telephone interactions. Tips for developing them include:
1) Establish an opening - Opening statements should make both the prospect and the caller feel comfortable. In many instances simply greeting the prospect by name is all that’s required. “Hi Mr. Prospect. Frank Smith here. Do you have a quick minute?” The prospect hearing their name spoken can often have a softening effect, so if it’s known or can be ascertained, mentioning the prospect’s name during the call can be an effective practice.
2) Reference a tangible benefit - Chances are that most prospective customers are not just waiting by the phone for a call. They’re busy in their professional and personal lives. They may, however, be receptive to your message if you’re respectful of their time and can gain their interest by giving them a compelling reason to listen. “Thank you Mr. Prospect. I’m sure you’re busy and I want to respect your time so I’ll be brief. The reason for my call is this. We specialize in working with small business owners to provide them with professional accounting services while reducing their costs.”
3) Ask for an appointment - Remember that unless your product or service is sold entirely over the phone, the objective is to have a face-to-face meeting with the prospective client to learn more about their needs, further establish rapport, and present more information about your company and its products or services. "Then let’s get together for 20-30 minutes to see if there’s a fit. We’ll answer your questions, share several options with you as well as demonstrate how our product/service will specifically address your objectives. Mr. Prospect do you have your calendar handy? What day would be good for you? Are mornings or afternoons better?”
